for Talk Internet to Grow

Internet Facilitators (IFL) profile
Since its formation in 1997 by the University of Manchester, IFL have become the largest provider of carrier neutral co-location space and services in the Northwest region. Based in Reynolds House on Manchester Technopark, IFL has over 15,000 sq ft of high quality datacenter space, designed to provide a secure and highly reliable environment for mission critical IT equipment. IFL has invested heavily in its core infrastructure, providing features such as N+1 UPS, standby diesel generator, VESDA fire detection systems, gas based fire suppression, high capacity air-conditioning, CCTV and 24x7 technical assistance.
Talk Internet’s business challenge
Having experienced significant growth in their dedicated server hosting business over the last year, Talk Internet decided that it was time to look for additional datacenter space to accommodate this rapidly expanding part of their business. Quickly realising that datacenter space was in extremely short supply in Manchester, and with their existing Manchester site already full to capacity, this presented a significant problem for the future of their business. Their London site was also proving very expensive and difficult to operate as power charges increased significantly in the capital.
The IFL solution
Key requirements for Talk Internet:
- new site should be based in the Northwest of England
- secure caged area for six racks
- access procedures should be secure but reasonable
- additional space available for future expansion
- simple and clear billing for power
IFL provided a dedicated and secure caged area, large enough for six racks, in their newly built 13,000 square ft. facility in Reynolds House on Manchester Technopark. The new suite has n+1 UPS & generator power protection, non-destructive fire protection systems, 24x7 manned security, technical support, alongside a wide choice of flexible bandwidth options.
“We were very impressed with the infrastructure at IFL. What they said they would deliver they did and ahead of schedule. They went out of their way to help us and met our requirements spot on. Their billing for power is clear and simple, with none of the usual hidden charges, which is a benefit that we can now pass onto our customers.”
Simon Jones, Managing Director, Talk Internet Ltd.
Talk Internet’s dedicated server hosting business continues to grow rapidly. Although they projected an ambitious growth plan for the new suite, they did not expect to fill their entire suite in such a short space of time and are now talking to IFL about taking additional space after just three months.
“We worked very closely with Simon in order to develop a targeted growth plan matching their projections for the next 6-12 months, with the aim of maximising the ROI achieved through choosing IFL as the preferred datacenter service provider.”
Matthew Edgley, Sales Manager, Internet Facilitators (IFL).
Having co-location space available in Manchester to grow in-line with Talk Internet’s business and growth projections was crucial in deciding where to expand. Furthermore, they needed the assurance that in six months time they would not find themselves in the same predicament and have signed a three year contract, secure in the knowledge that they now have the space to grow their dedicated server hosting business.
